MICHAELA MAY "CRYING AT THE RADIO" SHORT FILM

Michaela May is that rare combination of being ridiculously hard-working and talented at the same time. I’ve had the pleasure of working with her in several different settings, from producing and co-writing funky pop songs to performing with her live, as well as scoring some of the picture she has appeared in. This time she approached me for the latter; she wanted to make a music video bookended by a short film, to give the song more context and emotional depth. Her vision and motivation drove the whole thing forward to completion, and I was very happy to provide the musical score to the short film segments of the video.

There were some unique challenges with this, including matching music to an actress’s performance on screen, and clarifying different timelines. Because the piano was so central in the story, it being the only way through which the old woman could remember her past, it was only natural to use it as her voice throughout the video.

Please give it a watch and marvel at Michaela’s wonderful project!

(And enjoy some wintry Lake Ontario scenery while you’re at it)
